Windows 7 Migration

With support for Windows XP nearing it's end, organisations are looking with some trepidation to Windows 7. Migrating the organisation to a new version of Windows can be a troublesome and protracted event for a host of reasons:

  • XP applications may not be compatible with Windows 7
  • Custom applications may require costly re-design, validation and certification for Windows 7
  • Extensive regression testing may be required
  • Updating large numbers of PCs is time consuming

By virtualising your applications you can improve their portability across multiple operating systems. Not only does this help with migration, but you can run an application designed for XP in Windows 7, regression testing is simplified and speed of deployment of applications is dramatically increased.

Virtualising the desktop will allow new Windows 7 desktops to be deployed quickly and derive many other benefits as a result of being centralised and delivered as a service to the endpoint. In the first instance, existing PCs can be re-purposed to operate as a thin client, but greater savings can be made by replacing PCs with a zero client.
